Celebrating Women’s History Month: RICE’s Women in Leadership 

At the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE), we are proud to honor the remarkable women leading the charge in our organization. This Women’s History Month, as we acknowledge “Women Who Mean Business: Celebrating HERstory,” we highlight four dynamic RICE leaders. These women who bring extensive experience in entrepreneurship and business, are shaping the future of Black-owned enterprises through their vision, expertise, and unwavering commitment. 

Shawn Graham, Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer (EVP & CAO) 

Shawn Graham brings a wealth of operational excellence and strategic leadership to RICE. With a deep-rooted background in organizational development, financial management, and governance, she plays a pivotal role in driving the institution’s success. Her previous work with entrepreneurs and business leaders has equipped her with the knowledge to streamline processes, build strong infrastructures, and ensure long-term sustainability for Black-owned businesses. At RICE, Shawn’s commitment to fostering excellence ensures that every initiative aligns with the mission to empower, educate, and elevate entrepreneurs.  

As Shawn puts it, “I feel incredibly privileged to use my position to not only create real, positive change and uplift Black businesses in metro Atlanta, but to also empower the internal RICE team. I’m passionate about fostering a thriving business community where everyone has a chance to succeed. Together, we’re building a brighter future for businesses and contributing to the economic growth of our city. By supporting our mission to Build Black Business, we are creating a future where Black-owned businesses can flourish and lead the way in innovation and success.” 

Monica Delores Hooks, Chief Experience Officer (CXO) 

A champion for innovation and inclusivity, Monica Delores Hooks has a rich history in entrepreneurship, economic development, and ecosystem building. As the former Executive Director of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) in Atlanta, she has dedicated her career to empowering women in business. At RICE, Monica Delores is at the forefront of designing immersive experiences that strengthen Black-owned businesses, ensuring that every Stakeholder has access to the tools, networks, and insights they need to thrive.  

As Monica Delores describes, “My role is to develop ‘best in class’ RICE programming that delivers Uncommon Access to our Stakeholders. Matching exceptional resources to Black businesses for growth and scale is an incredible asset to the Atlanta entrepreneurial ecosystem. It drives innovation, fills a prosperity gap, and creates a more resilient Atlanta economy.” Her strategic leadership is not just about programming; it’s about ensuring Black entrepreneurs receive the tools and support needed to avoid common pitfalls and succeed at scale. Monica Delores’ leadership fosters an environment where entrepreneurs can develop sustainable, impactful ventures, solidifying RICE as a beacon of opportunity and transformation. 

Shalon Brown, Senior Director of Marketing & Communications 

As a master storyteller and brand strategist, Shalon Brown’s expertise in marketing and communications has elevated RICE’s visibility and impact. As Senior Director of Marketing & Communications, Shalon amplifies the voices and successes of Black entrepreneurs. “Through strategic storytelling, media outreach, and brand positioning, I ensure that the impact of RICE and the businesses we support is seen, heard, and valued,” she shares. Her work centers on reinforcing RICE’s mission to Build Black Business and drive economic equity. 

With a background in developing compelling narratives for businesses and entrepreneurs, she amplifies the RICE brand and the voices of Black innovators, ensuring that their achievements receive the recognition they deserve. Her leadership in crafting strategic messaging and fostering strong community engagement has positioned RICE as a thought leader in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Shalon’s dedication to authenticity and excellence continues to inspire and empower those we support. 

Meshea O. Webb, Senior Director of Human Resources 

Meshea O. Webb stands as a pillar of strength, guiding RICE’s internal culture and ensuring that the organization operates with integrity and purpose. With extensive experience in human capital management, she understands the unique challenges entrepreneurs face in building and sustaining a thriving workforce. As Meshea shares, “My role is centered on people—caring for them, supporting them, and empowering them to thrive. I believe that when our team feels valued, inspired, and equipped for success, they can fully pour into the entrepreneurs we serve.” Her leadership in HR extends beyond internal operations—she also serves as an advocate for talent development within the broader RICE community, supporting Stakeholders as they scale their businesses and cultivate high-performing teams.  

For Mesha, success is not just about personal achievements but about building inclusive cultures that elevate talent at every level. “True leadership is about lifting others, creating opportunities, and shaping a future where women in business are not only seen but celebrated and positioned for sustainable success.”

Terri-Nichelle Bradley

Terri-Nichelle Bradley is the Founder and CEO of Play at Brown Toy Box. Bradley believes that Black children should see themselves positively represented in every space the experience regularly, starting with their toybox and the toy aisle. Bradley, an equity in play advocate, is on a mission to disrupt the $27B toy industry by creating a brand that reflects the world we live in today. Launched in 2017 as a STEAM kit, Brown Toy Box evolved into a full-scale educational toy company producing and curating STEAM toys, media, and experiences for centering and celebrating Black children in a manner all children can enjoy, learn, and have fun. Prior to starting Brown Toy Box, Bradley led a communications consultancy working with Fortune 500 companies in campaigns designed to connect with the African American community. Prior to that, Bradley served as the VP of Corporate, Crisis, and Public Affairs for the world’s largest global PR agency. Bradley has been awarded the Civic Impact Award, was recognized as a 2019 Atlanta’s Top 100 Businesswomen of Influence by the Atlanta Business League, acknowledged on the 2020 Who’s Who in Black Atlanta list of influential leaders and most recently named to Inc. Magazine’s 2020 Female Founders 100 list. Stefan Miller

Stefan Miller is the Co-Founder and CMO for Young King Hair Care, which launched in December 2019. Young King Hair Care is a multicultural grooming and lifestyle brand company with tailored offerings catering to specific needs of young men of color. Stefan is a marketing professional with 15+ years of experience across marketing, sales and consulting in the CPG and tech industries. At Young King, Stefan has been featured in over 75+ national publications, was recognized by Mintel as one of the top US brand innovations of 2021, partnered with Disney and Marvel Studios for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and was a participant on Season 13 of ABC’s Shark Tank. Currently Young King Hair Care is available in multiple retail partners, including Target, Walmart, and CVS, selling in over 3,000 stores across the US. Prior to founding Young King Hair Care, he led business strategy and marketing communications, while launching innovations across multiple billion-dollar brands and categories at IBM, Johnson & Johnson, General Mills, Coca-Cola, and Red Bull. Stefan L. Miller Bio Stefan holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University with concentrations in Brand Marketing, Media Management and Management in Organizations, and is a proud HBCU alum of Morehouse College with a BA in Business Administration. Ceata E. Lash

Ceata E. Lash, CEO and founder of PuffCuff has emerged as a pioneering figure in the natural hair accessory industry, holding the distinction of being the first African-American woman to secure four US patents in this domain. Her journey to entrepreneurship was built upon a 30-year career as a graphic designer, which laid the foundation for launching PuffCuff in 2013. Ceata’s innovative leadership has earned her prestigious accolades, including the President’s Innovation Award from Sally Beauty and the New Voices + Barefoot Wine Beauty Business Grant. These achievements have placed her among the top female founders featured in Inc. Magazine. Committed to lifelong learning and growth, Ceata has completed the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Businesses National Cohort and was part of the inaugural Amazon Black Business Accelerator Cohort. Her recent completion of the “Building a Successful Diverse Business” program at Tuck Executive Education, Dartmouth, further underscores her dedication to continuous improvement and leadership in the business world.
